Blackstar Guitar Amplifiers

Since 2004, Blackstar has been manufacturing guitar amplifiers designed for amplification and effect additions. From amplifiers that focus on high gain tones to ones that provide clean overdrive tones, Blackstar offers a range of styles and sizes. These amps provide anywhere from 1 to 150 watts of power and can work with all of your instruments and pedals.

What are the types of Blackstar guitar amps?
  • Digital: This amp combines the features of both solid-state and tubes. They use circuits to mimic the sound of tube amps while still feeling as lightweight as solid-state amps. Digital amps also feature built-in digital effects.
  • Solid-state: These amps use transistors to amplify the guitar signal instead of valves or tubes. They provide a raw guitar sound with minimal automatic sound effects.
  • Tube: Also called valve amps, these use vacuum tubes to create loud tones with a range of effects. Tube amps provide a warm, natural sound. They are louder than solid-state amps at the same wattage, but they also weigh more.

What effects can Blackstar amps provide?
  • Tremolo: This effect rhythmically varies the amp volume.
  • Reverb: For this effect, a spring or plate reverberates when sound leaves the amp output. This creates an echo-like sound as if the notes are bouncing off the walls in a large room.
  • Electric: These tend to be built-in to the Blackstar amps via control board. It features buttons to alter sound effects, such as the echo, chorus, pitch, and flange. Most allow more than one effect alteration at a time.
  • Equalization (EQ): These allow you to change the frequency range, such as the treble and bass. An amp with more treble and bass frequency ranges possesses more EQ bands. The more EQ bands, the more control you have on altering the tone.
  • Sensitivity: This feature is located in the amp’s speaker. They have copper rods that dampen interference that may interrupt the guitar output. The more sensitive a speaker, the more clear notes it will pick up on from the amp.
What are the different styles of Blackstar guitar amps?
  • Combo: In a combo amp, the speaker and amplifier are encased in a cabinet together as one part. It is smaller than a head and cabinet amp but can provide up to the same wattage.
  • Head and Cabinet: For large venues and loud music, this design comes in two parts: the amp and the speaker cabinet. Some cabinets may have a slot for the amp to slide into, while others feature a spot on top.
