Audi A8 Blower Motors

Your Audi A8s climate control systems job is to keep your comfortable, and that system depends on the blower to move air into the A8’s cabin. When an Audi A8 blower motor fails, the climate in the cabin can’t be affected by the heater or the air conditioner. You can find a new blower motor for a luxury Audi A8 or Audi A8 L and learn more about it here.

What does the Audi A8’s blower motor do?

The blower motor turns a fan blade that forces air through the vent system in the dash of this flagship Audi vehicle. The air travels through the air conditioner and the heater, picking up heat or being cooled off, depending on the climate control settings. Without a functioning blower motor, there would be no air flow through the vents to provide heat or cooling for your A8 luxury sedan.

What causes the blower to stop running?

There are a couple reasons that an Audis blower stops working correctly. Often the problem is electrical, but an old Audi motor can suffer a mechanical failure from wear and tear. Some of the symptoms of these problems are below.

  • Fan runs on one setting: When the A8 vehicles blower runs on a high or low setting and not on any others, it may indicate that the blower motor needs replaced.
  • Fan doesn’t run: If the fan doesn’t run on any speed setting, then the problem could be the motor or something electrical outside of it. Check the fuse and whether there is power and a proper ground to the motor.
  • Fan is noisy: Loud squeaking, ticking, or grinding sounds coming from the Audi A8 sedans blower are signs that it may be failing mechanically. It’s also possible debris is obstructing the fan blades.
Is there a way to test the motors condition?

If the blower doesn’t run and there’s no obvious electrical reason like a blown fuse, the easiest way to eliminate the motor as the problem is to test its electrical connections. If the Audis blower motor is getting good power and ground, and still is not running, then you can be sure it needs to be replaced. If it isn’t, then you can trace the problem back to the component that is stopping it from running.

The easiest way to test the motor is to remove the access panel covering it under the Audi’s hood and use a power probe to test the power and ground wires when the blower is turned on and should be running. If the probe indicates a lack of power, ground, or both, then you can use a wiring diagram to trace those lines back to other electrical components that may be the problem until you find it.
