What You Need to Know About Charging Docks for iPhone 6
Keeping your devices charged can be a never-ending task. In some cases, your space can feel like it is being overrun by cables and cords, and various paraphernalia. Recharging stations are a simple, smooth streamlined way of recharging your phone and even other devices. If you want to clean up the clutter, a recharging station might be right for you.
Will the charging station only work with the iPhone 6?No. Most iPhones following the 6 all have the same basic body design, with the exception of the camera placement. Most docks that will charge a 6 are also compatible with almost all phones that use a lightning cable for recharging. This also includes models prior to the 6 that use a lighting connector. Some charging cradles, though, may not be large enough to support the additional weight and size of a plus version of iPhone model. Here is a list of phones that should also be compatible with an iPhone 6 recharging cradle.

Some stations will also have an additional attachment for you to recharge an Apple Watch at the same time. Some stations that do not have an attached Apple Watch recharging station can also accommodate an iPad mini or larger iPhones such as the plus versions of the 6, 7, and 8. There are also stations available that can actually accommodate up to six or more different devices, including iPhones, other branded phones, iPads, and other tablets.
Do you need a cable for the charging station?Most recharging stations do not include a cable. You will need to purchase or provide your own USB cable. If you purchase a recharging station that charges both the iPhone 6 and an Apple Watch, you will need a USB to Lightning charger for your phone and a separate Apple Watch charger for your watch. Some stations, however, come with connectors already built into the unit, so all you have to do is plug them in and they are ready to charge.
Is this a genuine Apple product?Apple does make an Apple branded charging dock, but there are a number of other manufacturers that make charging docks for iPhones. The Apple Branded charging dock only offers a dock for the phone, not an additional dock for charging an Apple Watch.
Can you use a charging dock with a case?Some charging docks will accommodate a phone with a case, but many charging docks will not. In some instances, this may also have to do with the size of your phone. You may purchase a dock that will accommodate an iPhone with a case, but an iPhone plus with a case may be too large. Phone cases are also different sizes, so a dock may work with a slim line case but not with one that is more bulky.
