Doors & Door Hardware

Doors and door hardware allow you to enter and exit a building or a room. Although they are functional items, doors and their mounting hardware can also add to the decor or style of the building or home. As such, choosing a door that meets your needs and aesthetics can be difficult.

There are 5 main types of interior doors that are commonly found in homes:

• Hinged single doors: These are the most common type of doors that are installed in residences. These doors are lightweight and usually have 2 hinges.
• Panel doors: These classic doors have inlaid panels. The spaces between the panels are filled with thinner materials. Molding may be used to add texture that works in both traditional and contemporary style homes.
• French doors: French doors are used in extra-wide doorways. They each have multiple rows of glass panels. While they are often used as patio entranceways, they may be used to close off living rooms while still letting light in.
• Pocket doors: These small interior doors slide into the wall when opened. This way, they do not take up any floor space.
• Bi-fold doors: These doors fold in half when opened. They are commonly used to conceal closet spaces.

There are 5 main types of exterior doors that may be used on the outside of a home or building:

• Panel doors: Exterior panel doors are similar to interior doors with the exception that they are thicker and more sturdy for extra security.
• Windowed doors: These are panel doors that have panes of glass installed. This allows the light to come in and can add a focal point to a home or building.
• Decorative doors: Decorative wood exterior doors are often ornately carved.
• Storm doors: These front doors are often made from vinyl or model. They are security doors that can be locked to help keep intruders out. These often frame the exterior door.
• Patio sliding doors: These typically have large panes of glass on vinyl or metal frames. One door slides into the second, thereby taking up no space in the kitchen or dining room.

Hardware for your entry door can help keep you safe and secure:

• Keyed doorknobs: Knobs are commonly found on entry doors. When you enter the key into the lock, it disengages an interior latch, allowing you to enter.
• Keyed door levers: These levers allow you to push down to gain entry instead of turning a knob.
• Keyed deadbolts: For extra security, you can install a deadbolt. Single-cylinder deadbolts allow you to unlock it from inside by turning a small knob. Double-cylinder deadbolts require a key to both lock and unlock when inside.
• Door jamb security hardware: These additional accessories can make your home or business more secure. Jambs strengthen the frame, making it difficult for someone to gain entry by kicking the entry door in.
• Door viewers: Also called peepholes, the viewers allow you to see who is outside before opening the entryway.
