Gucci Blooms

Another fashion hit from Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s Creative Director, the Gucci Blooms print debuted to instant success in 2015. Instantly recognizable by its pattern featuring clusters of lush, blossoming and unfolding geraniums, the Gucci Blooms print is equally part painterly and classically feminine.

The Gucci Blooms print is available in three colorways: pink, blue and the less frequently seen green. Blooms first appeared on clothing in the Fall/Winter 2015 show featuring a warm palette of blushing corals, pinks and reds. Soon after, Blooms handbags were resting on the shoulders of fashion’s “It” girls of the day. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, the blue Blooms collection arrived in 2016 and added a new level of cool to this burgeoning house code. One of the earliest appearances of the green variety was a two-piece men’s bomber jacket and shorts sent down the runway for Resort 2016. By that time, the print had expanded into an entire capsule collection adorning all types of leather goods, from handbags to high-heeled sandals.

Materials and Craftsmanship of the Gucci Blooms

Building on the fashion house’s “GG” motif, the Gucci Blooms print highlights blooms layered on top of the iconic GG Supreme canvas. For pink GG Blooms, the leather trim is typically a dark rose hue; for blue GG Blooms, the trim may be black, midnight blue or red; finally, for GG Blooms in green, the trim color is black. While the Italian fashion house often pairs its GG Supreme fabric with other notable house prints such as Bengal Tiger, Flora and Tian, none has proven as prevalent as the Blooms.

When not overlaid on GG Supreme coated canvas, the Blooms print flourishes across premium leathers of emerald green, metallic, pink and red. True to Gucci’s reputation, these designs convey an air of sophistication with their rich colors and refined details.

Gucci Blooms Silhouettes

Because it is a print, the Italian fashion house does not confine the Gucci Blooms to a single collection or handbag style, which is excellent news for collectors and the Gucci-obsessed. It means a favorite silhouette may already be available in the Blooms print, or a future collection may be in the works.

One of the Blooms' most prevailing designs is the Gucci Dionysus. These shoulder bags come in mini, small, medium and large and feature their characteristic tiger head closure. Fans of the Gucci Padlock series will be happy to learn that small Blooms shoulder bags are readily obtainable on resale markets. A bit of online sleuthing can even reveal the iconic and timeless bamboo-handled Blooms bag.

The Blooms print covers a wide array of other Gucci silhouettes, such as duffels, reversible totes and the much-loved Boston bag, a spacious satchel topped with rolled handles and double zipper pull closure. Moreover, the painterly print now adorns and freshens modern must-haves like phone cases, cosmetic pouches and knotted silk headbands.

The Gucci Bloom’s Value and Collectibility

The Gucci Blooms print has been a hit among collectors and tastemakers since its introduction, making it an inevitable future classic. Specifically, those Blooms pieces crafted utilizing the GG Supreme coated canvas are sure to never go out of style. Gucci’s monogram pattern's heritage appeal with the perennial beauty of an artful floral print makes this a collector’s must-have combination.

Gucci Blooms accessories enjoy good resale values on secondary markets. Given their proliferation across many types of accessories, they are regularly available so long as the request isn’t too narrow in scope. That is, there are ample Blooms handbags to be had for sure, but a specific size, style or color may not be available at a particular time. In early 2021, pre-loved GG Blooms continental wallets fetch, on average, more than $700. Pre-owned Dionysus GG Blooms shoulder bags sell for approximately $900, while collectors can often purchase GG Blooms large reversible totes for roughly $1,100.
