A Guide to K9 Advantix Dog Flea and Tick Remedies

Keeping your pets happy and healthy means protecting them from pests, including lice, fleas, ticks, and other parasites that make them uncomfortable and transmit diseases. K9 Advantix is a topical solution that protects dogs from troublesome pests for up to a month.

Pests can cause significant health problems in dogs. Fleas can cause anemia, tapeworms, and infections, along with itchy and uncomfortable skin. They can also lead to hair loss. Ticks can transmit Lyme disease, and mosquito bites can cause heartworms. Biting flies often leave behind uncomfortable bites and, like fleas, lice can result in itchy skin, hair loss, and anemia. Lice, fleas, and ticks can transfer from dogs to humans and other animals in the home as well. Advantix protects your dog by doing the following:

• Repelling and killing fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes
• Killing lice
• Repelling biting flies

The active ingredients in Advantix are permethrin, imidacloprid, and pyriproxyfen.

• Permethrin: Permethrin is an insecticide that kills on contact, so it works even if the offending pests hitch a ride on your pets without biting them.
• Imidacloprid: Imidacloprid is also an insecticide and kills insects by disrupting their central nervous systems.
• Pyriproxyfen: Pyriproxyfen is an insect growth regulator that interferes with development, preventing flea larvae from reaching adulthood and reproducing on your dog. This helps to stop fleas at all stages of growth and prevents your dog from becoming reinfested.

Advantix comes in single-dose tubes. To apply, open the tube and twist the tip to break the seal. Empty the entire tube onto your dog's back in two or three spots between his shoulders and along his neck, keeping the product where he won't be able to lick at or chew it. Using multiple application sites prevents the product from running or dripping onto an area where your pet can reach it. Keep your dog dry for 24 hours after application. After that, the product is waterproof. Apply a new dose of Advantix again in one month. Always use the appropriate Advantix dosage for your dog's weight. Never use this product on cats or puppies younger than seven weeks old or weigh less than 4 pounds.
