A keyless entry system in a car is an electronic device that controls access to a car or vehicle. It can come with a mechanical key or be used to start the car. For an A4, the keyless entry system is both the car starter and the entry mode into the car.

A keyless remote works by transmitting a signal to the caru001as electronics that gives you the ability to open the doors, lock the doors, open the trunk, and send off the panic alarm, all with the touch of the respective button. A key fob actually contains a very small radio transmitter that sends an electronic code to the vehicle. Programming a new key fob

• As a safety precaution, roll down the driveru001as side window. Then exit the car, and close the door.
• Using a second manual key, lock the door. Do not use the remote to lock it.
• Using the remote, press unlock. Lights should flash once.
• Wait 10 seconds.
• Press the unlock button again. The doors should unlatch, and the remote should be programmed.

Reprogramming a key fob

• Press the unlock button on the key fob and hold.
• While holding the button, insert the key into the ignition.
• Turn the car on, but do not start the engine. Continue holding it while turning the ignition for about two seconds.
• Turn off the vehicle then release the button.

A keyless entry remote is battery operated. Follow these steps for easy replacement.

• Press the silver button on the back of the remote.
• While holding the button, pull to separate the mechanical key and remote.
• Turn the remote over, and then press down on the release button.
• Gently pull out the battery then slide the replacement into its place.
• Put the key fob back together.
