What types of Pakistan coins are available?

Pakistan introduced seven coins in 1948:

  • 1 rupee: The 1-rupee coin is made of nickel. It has a calligraphic tughra and the words “GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN” in English on its front along with the date the coin was minted. The obverse bears a picture of a crescent moon and a star along with the coin’s denomination in Urdu and English.
  • Half rupee: The half-rupee coin is made of nickel and bears the same markings as the rupee coin except that it says “HALF RUPEE.” It is slightly smaller than the rupee coin.
  • Quarter rupee: The quarter-rupee coin is the same size as the rupee coin and has the same markings except that it bears the words “QUARTER RUPEE.”
  • 2 annas: The 2-anna coin is a quadrangular coin made of cupro-nickel alloy. It bears the same markings as the rupee coin except that it says “TWO ANNAS.”
  • 1 anna: The 1-anna coin has scalloped edges made of cupro-nickel alloy. It features the same markings as the rupee coin except that it bears the words “ONE ANNA.” There are 16 annas to a rupee.
  • Half anna: The half-anna coin is a quadrangular coin made of cupro-nickel alloy. It has the same markings as the rupee coin, but it has the words “HALF ANNA.”
  • 1 pice: The pice is a brass coin with a hole in its center. On one side, it says “GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN” in English and Urdu. On the reverse, it says, “ONE PICE” along with the date the coin was minted. An illustration of a crescent and star divides the value. There are 100 pice in a rupee.
