Most snowboards have certain design components in common. They have cores that consist of wood, metal, or foam sandwiched between layers of fiberglass. These layers fasten together in various ways; common formats include sidewall and ABS designs. Basic sidewall snowboards have laminated layers pressed together at the edges, forming a seal. ABS snowboards feature a special section that gives the core extra protection and provides more structural strength than a sidewall.
