Chevrolet Camaro Valve Stems and Caps

The Chevrolet Camaro is a classic pony car or muscle car produced by General Motors. The Camaros are known for their two-door layout and coupe or convertible body styling. After years of driving your or when doing maintenance on its wheels or tires, you may need to replace your Chevrolet Camaro valve stems or caps.

What are the features of Camaro valve stems and caps?
  • Built-in tire pressure sensors: Many of the valves for tires come equipped with an electronic tire pressure sensor. This communicates with the vehicles computer and alerts you to low tire inflation levels in one of the wheels.
  • Constructed from materials that resist rust and corrosion: Valves and caps are constructed from materials that resist rust and corrosion. The stems of the valves are often plated with nickel or brass. The caps may be made from black plastic or rubber.
  • Nickel or brass-plated cores for enhanced strength: In order to form a tight air-pressure seal with the tire, the stems of the valves and the threads of the caps are made of brass or nickel over steel.
How do you choose Chevrolet Camaro valve stems and caps?
  • Select the length and diameter of the stem: Select a length and diameter for the stem. Larger wheels typically have longer and wider stems and valve caps.
  • Choose the materials of the valve stem and valve caps: Choose tire valves made from bare steel, nickel-plated steel, brass-plated steel, or rubberized steel. Choose caps made with black plastic or a black rubber coating. Nickel-plated steel valves should only be used with an aluminum wheel inflation checker because a galvanic reaction will occur between brass-plated parts and aluminum.
  • Select a manufacturer for the parts: Select Chevrolet as the original equipment manufacturer of these wheel parts. There are also tire valves and valve caps made by GT in the Box and Precision Auto Labs as well as many other aftermarket manufactures that offer a variety of competitive products.
How do you replace Chevrolet Camaro valve stems?

After many years of driving, valve stems and valve caps can become brittle or cracked. This could cause your tires to lose air. To replace valve stems and valve caps for the Chevrolet Camaro:

  1. Set your Chevrolets emergency brake.
  2. Loosen the tires lug nuts with a wrench. Then secure the car onto jacks and raise the affected tire.
  3. Remove the affected wheel. Lay the wheel on a flat surface so that the valve stems and valve caps are pointed toward the sky.
  4. Remove the caps. This deflates your tire.
  5. Use a valve-stem removal tool to pull the tire valve out of the side wall of the tire.
  6. Remove the tire from the rim by breaking the seal. A tire iron does this quickly.
  7. Access the interior side of the tire and insert the new tire valve parts.
  8. Replace the tire in the reverse order from which you removed it.
  9. To replace the valve caps, simply unscrew the worn caps and screw on the new caps.
