Introducing the Yeezy Season 6 Collection

Yeezy Season 6 Sneakers

With each new Yeezy Season, Kanye West looked for fresh ways to model his collection. The Yeezy Season 6 debut was one of the most unique of the bunch. Instead of a New York Fashion Week show or Paris event, West was seemingly silent in late 2017, except for photos of wife Kim Kardashian on Instagram. It was later revealed that all those paparazzi-style images were West's subtle way of debuting his new clothing line. And when February 2018 hit, complete with ads using the photos and a mix of models and social media personalities mimicking Kardashian's looks — right down to the locations of the Kardashian shoots — it was soon apparent that West and Kardashian had revealed Yeezy Season 6 in a completely new way.

For those looking to mine footwear options from the Yeezy Season 6 collection, there was the typical array of new Yeezy boots mixing with a Crepe Sneaker and even a slide. But there was a bit of an adidas touch too, with a non-adidas Desert Rat Boot riffing on the design of the similarly-timed adidas Yeezy 500.

The Yeezy Season 6 Collection Takes on Texture

The Desert Rat Boot garnered the most attention from the Yeezy Season 6 footwear collection. The design takes its cues from the adidas Yeezy 500 but grows higher on the ankle. Using a mix of suede and mesh, the upper's overlays provide varying color tones, giving the design a retro sneaker-turned-boot aesthetic. The outsole remains chunky but a bit more militaristic, and the tongue comes padded.

The adidas Yeezy 500 was nicknamed the Desert Rat early on, although that name didn't stick for the official moniker. Like the boot that borrowed its styling, it features plenty of leather and mesh overlays with a chunky outsole. While the Yeezy 500 doesn't offer Boost midsole cushioning, it dipped into adidas archives, pulling an Adiprene midsole from an early Kobe Bryant model and adding a cushioned insole.

Additional Yeezy Season 6 designs include a return of the Yeezy Combat Boot and Military Boot. These styles feature rugged rubber soles and a mix of materials on the uppers to complement the thick suede. A Washed Canvas upper also enters the fray.

The Crepe Sneaker returned in Season 6, a low-top design with a softer crepe-style outsole. Using suede on the upper, Kanye West gave the design what was dubbed a "shaggy" appearance with a rougher feel. A special edition featured python skin for a completely new touch.

The padded slide came almost as a surprise release in early 2018. The textile upper with a molded footbed uses padding on the strap for additional comfort. The original retail price was $150. The Yeezy Season 6 also included a popular Chelsea Boot and a mixture of heel variations for women.

Collectibility and Value of the Yeezy Season 6 Collection

The Desert Rat and Yeezy 500 have the most trading value on the resale market from the Yeezy Season 6 timeline.

Expect to find the Desert Rat for close to $400, while the Yeezy 500 can easily surpass $300 and fetch closer to $600 for specific colorways, such as Utility Black. Expect to find an entire host of Yeezy Season 6 footwear options hovering around the $300 mark, from slides, Chelsea Boots and Combat Boots.

  • The Graphite (KM5015-070) and Taupe designs of the Combat Boot led the boot category, using a monochromatic dark and light design, respectively, to highlight the suede on the upper, a flexible lacing system and outdoor-ready outsole.

  • Grey, Taupe and Graphite were the colors of choice for the Yeezy Season 6 slide (YZ6WF6004)
