Refill Kits for HP Printer Cartridges

Printer ink refill kits can be used to refill your own empty inkjet cartridges in just a few minutes in the privacy of your own home. These HP refill kits are available from online stores and will allow you to extend the use of your HP compatible printer cartridges without replacing the original.

In most HP inkjet printers, the ink does not touch any internal parts of your printer; it only touches the ink cartridge and the print head. The compatible ink unit is self-contained, and the system applies ink to the printer paper as it feeds through the printer.

If you allow the cartridges to stay empty for an excessive length of time, the ink will dry and clog the print heads. For this reason, you should refill the ink reservoir as soon as it is empty, or just before it becomes empty. The printer nozzles can be unclogged by soaking them in print head cleaner solution for about an hour.

The HP refill kits will not create a mess if they are used as instructed. A blunt needle injector is included in the kit and will allow you to accurately measure the amount of ink you need to inject into the fill hole. The whole process will take no more than 5 to 10 minutes.

This varies widely depending on the cartridge. In some cases, you may be able to refill three to four times, and sometimes 10 or more times. To increase the number of times you may reuse your reservoir, see the section below.

Reusing your cartridges is a great form of recycling. Whether you refill one for your own use, or you are donating it to be re-manufactured, the following tips will help you:

• Stop printing before all the ink is gone. When the print quality becomes poor, stop printing and replace the ink reservoir or refill it. Otherwise, you may risk burning out the print heads, which will make the cartridge unusable.
• Store the ink reservoir with the print heads facing down, whether it is empty or full. In this way, the heads will remain moist and will help prevent clogging from dried ink.
• Place the ink cartridge in a sealed plastic bag, or, if it came with a clip, place it back in the clip. This will help prevent the ink or toner from drying.
• Prevent the copper electronics area of your cartridge from becoming damaged. Once damaged, it may become unusable. If the cartridge came with clips, they can be used to help protect the copper electronics area.
